A social community for sharing augmented reality creativity. | Patrick McCrory on the AR Minute

Season 2 | Episode 15

“The future is spatial and spent outside.” Patrick McCrory’s vision for an augmented reality (AR), where anyone with a mobile phone can create scenes in AR, anchor them to the physical world around them, and share them with their community lead him to create Scenic AR.

In order to build a community of XR creatives sharing their ideas and scenes, McCrory began by addressing barriers to entry and access to metaverse tools. Expensive headsets, proprietary tools, or apps locked to one OS, all limit the total addressable market for people enjoying AR with their friends. So, Scenic AR’s approach is mobile-first, AR-first, and people-first.

This conversation with Nathan C takes a lovely turn to discuss how embodied metaverse experiences, like using avatars in virtual spaces, can give people agency, abilities, and a voice that they may not have in their typical analog life. Shouts-out and calls-back to inspirational conversations with the amazing #BossWomenOfTheMetaverse Dr. Donna Z. Davis and Caitlin Krause.

For many applications and uses (ecommerce, retail, remote support, social, gaming, etc.) mobile AR is not only the most accessible, equitable tech experience for users, but it’s also the “right amount of metaverse” for most organizations looking to get started working with spatial computing technologies and strategies.

Thanks for helping to make AR more accessible, shareable Scenic!
